Learning how blood and lymphatic vessels develop and function in the eye is important for understanding and treating eye diseases and disorders in people. This picture of an adult, anesthetized zebrafish was taken using a powerful microscope that uses lasers to illuminate the fish. The image shows blood vessels (red) and lymphatic vessels (blue) in the eye. This picture also won the “Image of Distinction” in the Nikon Small World competition.
